The dreaded two mile conversion is rearing it's ugly head. Ocean Breeze provided us with a huge amount of fast two mile results and, as a result, we had to use the 38 second conversion from 2 mile to 3k to give these guys a ranking. I don't love that conversion strategy, but it is the way it is.
Jacob McKenna is the only guy I've got scratching from this event. Patrick Theveny of Penncrest is actually my last guy in as of now based on his latest two mile time. He heads a pretty surprising group of bubble guys that also includes Matt Maiale of Wissahickon, Jacob Underwood of Wilson and Ian Miller of Manheim Township. Those guys are having terrific seasons and I would be happy to see some new blood in the state championship.
Lots of guys are lurking near by, especially some of those WPIAL guys like Fitch and McGoey that I still think will be dangerous in the final week or so of qualifying. I doubt we've heard the last of Lederer (Penncrest also has to sneak in a DMR I'd guess) or Borger. We will see on the CRN guys.
Rusty is the big favorite at the top, but the two guys right behind him are no slouches. If he tries the double, this race becomes very, very fun.
i feel like this is one of the deepest years we've seen in the 3k! i don't remember the last time there were 12 runners sub 9 before february and 20 runners sub 9:05!! this is really exciting and hopefully continues to translate to fast 3200m times in the spring. best of luck everyone jockeying to get in!

The Varsity White division only ran a 3200 at the Ocean Breeze Meet, not a full 2 Mile.
ReplyDeleteThat is incorrect, check the video. It was a full 2 mile.
